What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® is made out of poly-l-lactic acid. This substance is used to stimulate collagen production in the skin. Collagen is a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. As we age, the production of collagen decreases, leading to the loss of volume and the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. Sculptra® aims to address this by stimulating collagen synthesis, helping to restore volume and improve skin texture over time.

How long does Sculptra® last?

Sculptra® helps stimulate your natural collagen and improve skin quality for firmer, glowing skin. 95% of patients had improved skin glow 2 years after Sculptra® treatment.

What can I expect after Sculptra®?

Your Aesthetic Injectors will review your post-care instructions in great detail and will be in contact with you after your treatment. The treatment will take approximately 30-60 minutes. You will rest at the cozy suite of Galena Aesthetics until you are ready to be released. There is minimal discomfort during the treatment. Redness and swelling may occur after treatment, however this will resolve quickly.

Who is not a candidate of Sculptra®?

Sculptra® should not be used by people that are allergic to any ingredient of the product or have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring. Safety has not been established in patients who are pregnant, lactating, breastfeeding, or under 18 years of age. Sculptra® is generally safe, however there are certain individuals who are not suitable candidates. Therefore it is crucial to consult with a qualified healthcare professional with experience in aesthetics to determine candidacy.

  • Active Skin Infections: People with active skin infections or inflammatory skin conditions in the treatment area should avoid dermal filler injections until the condition has resolved.
  • Pregnancy or Breastfeeding: It's generally recommended to avoid cosmetic procedures, including dermal fillers, during pregnancy or while breastfeeding due to limited safety data available in these situations.
  • Bleeding Disorders or Medications: Those with bleeding disorders or who are on blood-thinning medications might have an increased risk of bleeding or bruising after injections.
  • Unrealistic Expectations or Psychological Concerns: Individuals with unrealistic expectations about the outcomes of dermal fillers or those with underlying psychological concerns may not be suitable candidates.
  • Recent Surgical Procedures or Treatments: Individuals who have recently undergone certain facial surgeries or skin treatments might need to wait until they have fully healed before considering dermal filler injections.

Where can Sculptra® be placed?

Sculptra®® has unique injection requirements and should only be used by a trained healthcare practitioner. Contour deficiencies should not be overcorrected because they are expected to gradually improve after treatment.
